BAGAC, Bataan – A communist rebel voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Bagac, Bataan on Wednesday along with his firearm and explosives.

Bataan Police said “Ka Azur,” a 59-year-old carpenter and resident of Barangay Saysain in this municipality, was affiliated with the Bagong Hukbong Bayan under the Rehiyong Yunit Guerilla Gawaing Militar – South Party Committee operating in the province.

Ka Azur turned himself in at the Bagac Municipal Police Station in Barangay Atilano Ricardo at about 12:50 p.m., bringing along one improvised 12-gauge shotgun, one 40mm high-explosive cartridge, and explosive materials, including a time fuse and a detonating cord.

The intelligence operation leading to Ka Azur’s surrender was conducted by joint elements of the Bataan 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) under Lt. Col. Joelito Orias, and was supported by multiple law enforcement and military units.

After the surrender, the firearm, explosives, and explosive materials were placed under the custody of the Bataan 1st PMFC for proper documentation and disposition.

Authorities lauded Ka Azur’s decision to surrender, emphasizing the government’s continued efforts in encouraging rebels to return to the fold of the law through reintegration programs and other peace initiatives.

Bataan Police urged other members of armed groups to follow suit and avail themselves of government assistance for a peaceful return to civilian life. (PNA)
