MANILA – The 55-meter M/V Amazing Grace donated by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be used for humanitarian missions and emergency response.

In a statement Friday, PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said the vessel is a critical asset in delivering medical and humanitarian aid to remote communities, particularly in coastal areas.

The ship will also be used in response to emergencies, natural disasters, and public health crises.

“We are very fortunate that the PRC has recognized that transferring a key asset to the PCG would somehow enable both of us to put more value on this asset. Rest assured that the PCG will do everything we can to put that value both of us desire,” Gavan said.

The ship was donated in a ceremony led by PRC Chair Richard Gordon on Thursday at the PRC national headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

In his speech, Gordon said the ship was donated as part of the humanitarian principles of the PRC and hoped it would be used effectively, particularly for missions to remote areas such as Pagasa Island. (PNA)
