MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Saturday deported three Chinese nationals who were arrested early this month in connection with the campaign against illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
Lyu Xun, 23; Kong Xiangrui, 26; and Wang Shangle, 25, were sent home to Xiamen via AirAsia, according to a BI news release.
The foreigners were among 450 illegal POGO workers apprehended during a massive operation in Parañaque City on Jan. 8.
“This is only the first batch of deportees. We are working tirelessly to ensure the swift removal of all individuals found violating our immigration laws,” BI Commissioner Joel Viado said.
Viado said fast-tracking deportation is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to protect the country’s interests by banning POGOs.
“We encourage those who are still here illegally to voluntarily surrender to authorities. Avoid the embarrassment and consequences of arrest. Cooperate now to facilitate your departure,” he said. (PNA)
