MANILA – Immigration operatives have re-arrested a South Korean fugitive who escaped last March 4.
In a news release on Sunday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Na Ikhyeon was found hiding in a residential area in Brgy. Pampang, Angeles City, Pampanga. Also arrested was his cohort, Kang Changbeom.
In a press conference, BI Commissioner Joel Viado said the two were arrested early Sunday morning.
The BI said Kang aided Na’s escape based on CCTV footage and other intelligence information gathered by authorities.
Further verification with the Korean National Police Agency confirmed that Kang is a wanted fugitive in South Korea for fraud.
Both will be transferred to the BI detention facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
Given their escape attempt, “special arrangements” will be made to ensure heightened security, as they are now tagged as high-risk detainees, the BI said.
Meanwhile, three BI employees who helped Na escaped have been terminated. (PNA)
