LEGAZPI CITY – Police apprehended a high-value drug suspect and seized PHP2 million worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation in Daet, Camarines Norte, a police report released on Tuesday said.
Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5), said the operation on Monday evening led to the arrest of 38-year-old “Dan” from Paracale, Camarines Norte.
Calubaquib said authorities recovered 49 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, totaling 300 grams worth an estimated PHP2.04 million.
The operation was carried out by the Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit (PIU-PPDEU), along with the Daet Municipal Police Station (MPS) from the Camarines Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO).
Calubaquib added the suspect would face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The suspect is now in custody pending the filing of charges against him.
In a statement, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon commended the operatives for the successful operation and encouraged other members of PRO-5 to further intensify their campaign against illegal drugs.
“This successful operation demonstrates our ongoing efforts to combat illegal drugs in the region. We will not rest until we completely eradicate the syndicates that spread drugs in our communities,” Dizon said.
He added the Bicol police is committed to intensifying operations against crime to ensure peace and order throughout the region. (With a report from Valerie Mae Olaño, OJT/PNA)
