MANILA – College of Saint Benilde conquered Arellano University, 25-22, 27-25, 27-29, 25-19, at the start of the NCAA Season 100 men’s volleyball tournament Thursday.
Rocky Roy Motol led the Blazers with 25 points, 23 on attacks, in the one hour and 48-minute match at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym.
Mike Adrian Balbacal contributed 14 points off 13 attacks and one ace, Jacob Agassi Herrera had 13 points while John Adriane Austero added 11 points, including five blocks.
Skipper Arnel Christian Aguilar made eight points and 15 excellent receptions, while Chris Lorenz Villanueva delivered 19 excellent sets and three points.
CJ Dominguito and Carl Justin Berdal scored 17 and 12 points, respectively for the Chiefs, who fought hard to claim the third set after 30 minutes.
Daniel Adonai Agovida chipped in 10 points, including three blocks, while Anfernee Curamen and Jiwen Sinuto scored nine points each.
Team captain Adrian Villados had six points to go with 21 excellent sets.
University of Perpetual DALTA System is the defending men’s champion. Emilio Aguinaldo College and Letran are second and third, respectively.
College of Saint Benilde topped the women’s division last season. Letran ranked second followed by Lyceum of the Philippines University. (PNA)
