MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against the modus of syndicates offering jobs abroad or free “tours” to be used in smuggling illegal drugs to the Philippines.
The bureau advised Filipinos working abroad to be wary of announcements regarding jobs in other countries as they might fall victims to illegal drug smuggling schemes.
OFWs must make sure the recruiter and employer are legitimate and accredited; to check the documents and travel arrangements carefully; and to not let anyone put anything in their luggage or agree to carry someone else’s tools or luggage, the BOC said.
“Contact the Department of Migrant Workers and the BOC if you find anything suspicious in your luggage or if you fall victim to this modus to provide immediate assistance and avoid a threat to your security,” it said. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
