(Relaxnews) – “Days of Future Past,” the seventh film in the mutant action franchise, outperformed the previous six in terms of global opening weekend revenues. Bryan Singer’s blockbuster grossed $261.8 million worldwide during the weekend ending May 25, according to Rentrak.

With its monster opening, the latest chapter in the “X-Men” saga easily took first place at the worldwide box office. The feature also dominated the US domestic box office, where it took in $90.7 million over its opening weekend.

Far behind in second place, “Godzilla” took in $65.9 million in 65 territories, a sharp decline from its $196 million debut during the previous weekend. “Neighbors,” the comedy starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, was in third with 22.1 million.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” grossed $19 million to end up in fourth place, while “Blended,” the comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, claimed fifth place with $16.3 million.
