(LOS ANGELES-Relaxnews) – After almost a year as the No. 3 film of all time with $1.32 billion in earnings, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, released in July 2011, has slipped to fourth place as The Avengers edges it out with $1.35 billion.
After just a month in theaters, director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers reached this milestone on Friday, June 1. It is also the Disney studio’s highest grossing worldwide film, perThe Hollywood Reporter.
James Cameron’s Avatar stays the No. 1 title with $2.8 billion and the same director’s Titanic remains No. 2.
The latest top five grossing films of all-time:
1. Avatar, $2.7 billion
2. Titanic, $2.1 billion
3. The Avengers, $1.35 billion
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, $1.32 billion
5. Transformers: Dark of the Moon, $1.1 billion
Marvel is reportedly due to release a 10-disc Blu-ray collectors set, Avengers Assembled; an announcement is due July 15 with more information.
The limited edition collection will contain the following:
-Marvel’s The Avengers
-Captain America: The First Avenger
–Iron Man 2
–The Incredible Hulk
-Bonus Disc – “The Phase One Archives”
-Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from Marvel
The Avengers will release on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and DVD and as a digital download on September 25.
