MANILA – The country’s military chief called on Filipino soldiers to “preserve the freedom” that allows every Filipino to aspire for a brighter future.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. made the call in celebration of the military’s 89th founding anniversary.
Philippine Army commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido read Brawner’s message during a simultaneous interfaith prayer service and flag raising ceremony held at Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Friday.
“As we reflect on 89 years of service, let us remember that our strength comes from working together, united by our shared mission. It is through our collective effort that we fulfill our duty and contribute to a better future for our fellow Filipinos,” Brawner said.
Army officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees graced the event.
“As we face new challenges, both within and outside our ranks, let us remember the importance of this bond and the ideals that define our nation. We must preserve the freedom that allows every Filipino to dream, to grow and to thrive,” the AFP chief added.
The AFP was founded on Dec. 21, 1935 under the National Defense Act of 1935 and traces its roots to the Philippine Revolutionary Army. (PNA)
