MANILA (Mabuhay) — Ruru Madrid has come a long way since he finished as runner-up on the talent reality show “Protégé: The Battle For The Big Artista Break” in 2012.

From teenybopper roles, Ruru now takes on a more serious and mature role in GMA’s remake of the 2005 fantaserye “Encantadia.”

He admitted he feels pressured and excited at the same time to play the role of Ybarro, which was previously portrayed by Dingdong Dantes.

He went to the audition without any expectations.

Ruru divulged Aljur Abrenica was also being considered for the role. So, akala ko talaga siya,” he added.

After the casting was announced, Ruru physically prepared for his role by working out and doing martial arts training. He looks buff now.

Ruru feels honored to have received tips from Dingdong. The two have known each other as Dingdong hosted “Protégé,” where Ruru was one of the contestants.

Kailangan physically fit ka,” he said.

While Dingdong is dubbed as Primetime King, Ruru feels he still has a long way to go to be even called Primetime Prince.

Many have been awaiting “Encantadia” following the excitement created with the release of its teaser. Ruru believes they all need to work hard to make it a big success.

With all the opportunities coming his way, Ruru would like to focus more on work than finding love. He is romantically linked with his “Enacantadia” co-star Gabbi Garcia. Asked about it, he said, “Magkaibigan lang kami na sobrang close. Pero ligaw? Hindi pa po siguro sa ngayon.”(MNS)
