(Relaxnews) – A tense first teaser for “The Rover,” directed by David Michôd of “Animal Kingdom” (2010), shows what happens when young car jacker Reynolds steals from the wrong person.

The 1m15s teaser is but a snippet of what’s to come, offering a synopsis of what happens when Eric, played by Guy Pearce, sets off on the trail of a criminal gang.

There are shades of “Taken” and “Mad Max” about it, set as it is in a ravaged Australian wilderness, but at this point Pearce’s Eric has none of the charm of film franchise icons Bryan Mills or Max Rockatansky.

Instead, this clip gives him an air of eloquence laid over a menacing bedrock of viscious cruelty; Pattinson, as Rey, knows that he’s in too deep.

Australian filmmaker David Michôd has recruited Guy Pearce from the pair’s previous collaboration, modern-day crime film “Animal Kingdom.” There’s no firm date for “The Rover” but filming wrapped last March and it’s expected out this year.
