(Relaxnews) – The actress is in the running for one of the lead roles in the crime series’ second season, according to Variety.

As fans await the official announcement of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s successors, rumors on the subject continue to abound. Only a few details are certain for now: the second season will be set in California and will revolve around four main characters, according to the show’s creator Nic Pizzolatto.

Earlier this summer, the trades indicated that Vince Vaughn was attached to play a businessman whose dealings may be connected to a murder and that Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Elisabeth Moss were in line to play the detectives assigned to the case.

This weekend, however, Variety reported that while Vaughn, Farrell and Kitsch are now in final negotiations, the “Mad Men” star is in competition with Rachel McAdams, who is also said to be circling the female lead.

Meanwhile, the production has approached director Justin Lin (“Fast and Furious 4, 5 and 6”) about helming at least the first two episodes of the new season, Deadline reports.

Despite winning only a handful of Emmy Awards in minor categories, “True Detective” remains one of the most talked-about shows of 2014. Cary Fukunaga, who helmed the entire first season, was honored at the ceremony with the best directing award for the episode “Who Goes There.” The show’s second season will air in July 2015.
