CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) arrested two active-duty officers for shooting and injuring a civilian here, adding that it will never tolerate violence.

In an interview on Tuesday, Barangay Indahag Councilor Nazar Uayan said the family of the 38-year-old male victim is set to file charges against two police officers — a patrolman and an executive master sergeant.

He said the victim and the cops were at a night fair as part of the barangay fiesta when they had an altercation in Sitio Lumboy on Monday night.

“According to the witnesses, the parties involved were intoxicated when the commotion started,” Uayan said.

The victim sustained a wound to the upper leg. He is now in stable condition.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) confirmed that the two officers are detailed at the City Mobile Force Company.

“Let this be clear: No one is above the law, not even our own. I do not and will never protect criminal acts committed by anyone wearing the uniform,” Col. Dexter Paje, COCPO director, said.

The incident reached the PRO-10 leadership, including Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr., who promised assistance to the victim.

The two erring police officers were apprehended and had their service firearms seized. Criminal and administrative proceedings will follow. (PNA)
