DAGUPAN CITY – The Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO1) on Monday condemned the killing of a police officer in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan and vowed swift justice for the fallen cop and all victims involved in the incident.
Police Staff Sergeant Dennis Jali Oria, 33, assigned to the Tayug Municipal Police Station, was killed on the eve of election day while responding to a reported altercation between two groups in Barangay Samon.
The commotion escalated into a gunfight, resulting in Oria’s death, and the fatal shooting of two unidentified men.
“I want to assure the public that the Philippine National Police is fully committed to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” PRO 1 director Brig. Gen. Lou Evangelista said in a statement.
He ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and to bring all responsible individuals brought to justice.
Evangelista extended his deepest condolences to Oria’s family, praising the officer’s bravery and sacrifice.
“He died serving his community. His courage and dedication will never be forgotten,” he said, adding that PRO1 will provide full support to Oria’s loved ones.
Three suspects, aged 49, 51, and 52, have been arrested.
Police also recovered four firearms and a vehicle allegedly used in the crime. (PNA)
