Philippines’ COVID-19 tally now over 220k with 3,446 new cases
MANILA, Sept 1 (Mabuhay) — The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tally soared to 220,819 after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 3,446 new infections on Monday, the sixth consecutive day in which more than 3,000 new cases were reported.
The five provinces with the highest number of new infections were Metro Manila with 1,900, Laguna with 163, Cavite with 161, Leyte with 155, and Pampanga with 116.
Among the newly reported cases, 86 percent or 3,446 contracted COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
The total number of recoveries rose to 157,562 after 165 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness. The death toll also climbed to 3,558 with 38 new fatalities.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday reported only one Filipino abroad who contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the total tally to 10,070.
In its latest case bulletin, the DFA also said there are no new fatalities while three new recoveries were recorded in the Asia and the Pacific.
This figure brings the total number of recoveries to 6,127 while the death toll remains at 755.
Meanwhile, about 3,188 Filipinos abroad are still undergoing treatment.
“As we celebrate National Heroes’ Day today, the DFA honors those in the frontlines, whether in the country or abroad, including personnel in our Foreign Service Posts and all Overseas Filipinos, whose tireless service to humanity amidst this pandemic make them modern-day heroes,” the DFA said.
