MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed the international cast and crew of the upcoming romantic comedy film “The Last Resort” at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, celebrating what he described as a moment of pride for the Philippines.

The film, which is set in the country, features a high-profile ensemble led by Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich, who were known for their roles in the Star Wars franchise.

Also present were actors Sam Neill, Beck Bennett, and Dylan Menor, along with celebrated director Donald Petrie (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), Academy Award-winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter (Titanic), and a production team that includes Filipino executives and producers.

The President expressed enthusiasm about the project and its potential to showcase the Philippines to a global audience.

He emphasized the importance of storytelling that highlights Filipino culture and landscapes.

“I am so happy now that you are in fact here and the work has started and it’s all terribly exciting for all of us,” he said.

“Thank you for coming to the Philippines — hopefully helping the Philippines project out into the world, the way Filipinos see our own country, and it’s a country we’re very, very proud of — the people are prouder of. I hope you get that during your time here.”

Petrie also directed celebrated romantic comedies, including “Miss Congeniality” with Sandra Bullock and “Just My Luck” with Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine. (PNA)
