MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Clark said Saturday it seized 2,100 grams of high-grade marijuana or “kush,” with an estimated street value of PHP3.15 million, concealed inside garments.
In a press release, acting District Collector Jairus Reyes said the shipment, which arrived on Oct. 21, was declared as camping sleeping bags.
It was flagged for inspection by the BOC’s X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) after suspicious images were detected.
Authorities discovered two JOOG bags, each containing one vacuum-sealed transparent pouch containing dried leaves and fruiting tops suspected to be high-grade marijuana.
“The smugglers attempted to hide the illegal substance by wrapping it in garments, but the BOC’s X-ray inspection and profiling expertise thwarted the attempt,” the press release said.
A K-9 unit confirmed the presence of illegal substances.
Samples were taken and turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for chemical analysis, which confirmed the substance as marijuana, classified as a dangerous drug under Republic Act 9165, as amended. (PNA)
