MANILA – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is expecting 2.2 million passengers this month amid the holiday rush travel surge, assuring the public it is ready to augment assistance at the airports it operates.
In a televised briefing Tuesday, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said passengers who may be needing assistance or who have queries may reach out to the help desks at the airports.
“We have many personnel who could assist. We have those on standby in case more people are needed. The area managers were also instructed to assist the passengers,” he said.
Apolonio said passengers who have complaints should go to the help desks.
All the 44 CAAP airports are on heightened alert, in partnership with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group and the Office for Transportation Security, he added.
About 2.2 million passengers are expected to use the CAAP airports this December, expecting 7 to 10 percent in passenger volume year-on-year.
There were 2 million passengers at CAAP airports in December 2022.
“So far, there are many local tourists. Maybe because it’s more convenient and faster to travel by air. There are also promotions that make the airfare more affordable,” Apolonio said.
Meanwhile, to avoid hassle, Apolonio reminded the public to avoid bringing prohibited objects in their hand-carry luggage.
Apolonio also urged the passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight. (PNA)
