ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Army announced on Monday the death of a female New People’s Army (NPA) rebel during an encounter with the 61st Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division in Barangay Lahug, Tapaz, Capiz over the weekend.
The slain platoon medic of the dismantled regional headquarters of the NPA Komiteng Rehiyon–Panay (KR-Panay) was identified as Christine May Capaducio, also known by her aliases Sheryl, Elsa, Paday, and Isa.
Government troops seized an M16 rifle and several personal belongings from her possession.
“The clash occurred during a focused military operation launched by the 61IB in response to a tip-off from local residents regarding the presence of armed remnants of the CTG’s (communist terrorist group) Komiteng Rehiyon–Panay in the area,” the 3rd Infantry Division said in a statement.
Major Gen. Michael Samson called on the remaining communist rebels to abandon armed struggle and choose the path of peace.
“I urge those who are still in the mountains to reflect on what happened to their comrade. There is no future in violence. Return to the folds of the law, embrace peace, and avail yourselves of the government’s reintegration and amnesty programs,” Samson said. (PNA)
