MANILA (Mabuhay) — After being named one of the senatorial bets of the Liberal Party (LP), Dingdong Dantes clarifies that he is not running for any position in the 2016 elections.

Together with Dingdong, LP also listed Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno and MMDA chair Francis Tolentino, among others.

“Karapatan naman nila to come up with their list, with their draft. Sa akin, it’s an honor na napasama ako diyan. Sino naman ako para mapasama doon,” Dingdong recently told reporters on the set of his GMA teleserye “Pari ‘Koy.”

For now, Dingdong wants to focus on his career and his new family. His wife Marian Rivera is three months pregnant.

“Bukod sa trabaho ko dito sa GMA ay focused ako in serving the Filipino youth and taking care of my wife and our baby. Wala sa plano ko iyon. I’m categorically saying na I’m not running for any electoral post this 2016,” he said.

Dingdong shared that he did not expect to be part of the list. Still, people have always speculated on his interest in running for public office because of his youth advocacies. Aside from putting up the YesPinoy Foundation, Dingdong is also Commissioner of the National Youth Commission.

“I never saw it coming. Ako naman ay isang volunteer lang. Dati pa nila sinasabi (na tatakbo ako), pero hindi naman. It’s a part of the whole process of really participating sa mga social activities na nangyayari sa ating mga communities, sa country,” he said.

The Kapuso actor is excited about their first baby. Dingdong feels that his life has more meaning now that he and Marian are starting a family. He has also become more inspired at work. Dingdong won as Best Actor at the recently-held 6th Golden Screen TV Awards.

“Lahat na ngayon after the wedding, especially now there’s a baby along the way, parang nagkaroon ng meaning ’yung mga bagay, pati mga trabaho. So ’yung award na iyon, parang 10 times ’yung pasasalamat (ko),” he said.

The newlyweds and expectant parents have become closer and sweeter.

“In a way, mas (nadagdagan)… Kung dati lagi kang lumalabas, ganu’n pa din, pero ngayon, iba na usapan niyo kasi may ini-expect kayo,” he said.

Dingdong also takes extra care of his wife, who is taking a time off from most of her showbiz commitments. Marian withdrew from “The Rich Man’s Daughter” because of her pregnancy.

“She’s better. ’Yun nga ’yung crucial stage niya ngayon. May nararamdaman siyang changes so nagre-react siya. Lahat naman na nararamdaman niya ay ’yung normal na nararamdaman ng mga buntis. So andu’n ako para umalalay,” he said.

Dingdong added, “Desisyon namin iyon na huwag ilagay sa kahit anong risk ’yung pregnancy niya. One way to do it is siyempre hindi ka magtrabaho. Malungkot man kasi magandang proyekto iyon, kasi something new. (Pero) priority talaga namin ’yung baby.”

Like Marian, Dingdong also had to take it easy with his showbiz commitments so he can focus on looking after his wife.

“Nagbawas na din ako ng mga ibang gawain. Dati kasi sagad-sagaran hangga’t kaya pa. Ngayon after work, diretso na ako sa kanya,” he said.

As of now, Dingdong is still getting a grip on fatherhood. “I’m really clueless ngayon. Hindi ko alam what to expect. Malaking bagay ’yung mga tips na nakukuha ko, of course Gabby Eigenmann (who has four kids) is there. ’Yung mga kapatid ko din nakukuhanan ko ng aral. Later on, I will also develop my own style,” he said.

Dingdong feels happy with the positive audience response to “Pari ‘Koy.” He plays the role of Father Jericho ‘Kokoy’ Evangelista, parish priest of Brgy. Pinagpala.

“The story itself is a reality check na nangyayari talaga sa kapaligiran natin. I like the fact na I’m getting much learning and inspiration sa palabas na ito. Masaya ako na nampanan ko ang buhay ng isang pari. These are the things I don’t know kasi sa Sunday lang natin usually sila nakikita,” he said. (MNS)
