MANILA – There is no directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for government undersecretaries to submit their courtesy resignations amid a performance review, Malacañang said on Friday.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said there is no memorandum order instructing undersecretaries to resign from their respective posts.
“Wala pa pong natatanggap na memo na kailangang mag-submit ng courtesy resignation ang mga Usec., pero tuluy-tuloy pa rin po ang pagi-evaluate sa kanilang performance (We have not yet received a memo requiring the Undersecretaries to submit a courtesy resignation, but their performance is still being evaluated),” Castro said in a Palace press briefing.
On May 22, Marcos directed Cabinet secretaries, heads of agencies with Cabinet rank, other heads of agencies, and presidential advisers and assistants to resign from their respective posts, following the 2025 midterm elections to recalibrate his administration’s priorities and services.
Marcos on Tuesday clarified that there is no Cabinet revamp since his directive for them to resign is “not a one-shot, one-time, big-time thing.”
He noted that government undersecretaries are now under performance review, adding that the performance evaluation will be “more rigorous,” covering not just government officials.
He also announced his plan to conduct a “quarterly” performance review in government, as part of his efforts to recalibrate the government. (PNA)
