MANILA, Oct 30 (Mabuhay) — The government’s COVID-19 task force stood by its decision to place Metro Manila and six other areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) next month, Malacañang said Friday.

Aside from Metro Manila, the cities of Bacolod, Iloilo, Tacloban and Iligan, as well as the provinces of Batangas and Lanao del Sur will also be under GCQ from November 1 to 30, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Wala pong nagbago doon sa naanunsyo na quarantine guidelines ng ating Presidente,” said Roque.

The rest of the country will be under modified general community quarantine.

It was President Rodrigo Duterte who announced the quarantine classifications on Monday, but the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) reviewed the list on Thursday in light of the appeals of some local government units.

The Philippines has so far reported 376,935 COVID-19 cases, with 7,147 deaths.

Meanwhile, the government’s COVID-19 task force has allowed the University of the Philippines College of Medicine to resume its face-to-face clinical internship program, Malacañang said Friday.

Roque said the internship will take place at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila. The PGH is administered by state-run UP.

The university had also disclosed plans to establish an extension of the PGH inside the UP main campus in Diliman, Quezon City to expand the health facility’s existing capacity and create an additional training ground for more aspiring doctors. (MNS)
