MANILA – There is no need for the government to look for funds for the implementation of the “Pamilya Pass 1+3 Promo” in the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-Line 3 and Light Rail Transit (LRT)- Lines 1 and 2, Malacañang said Wednesday.
In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said there is no funding requirements to carry out the initiative, which aims to ease the financial burden of transport on families spending time together every Sunday.
“Government-run po ito at karaniwan naman po kapag Sunday ay hindi naman po napupuno ang LRT at MRT natin. So, wala pong budget na required for this (This is government-run and usually on Sundays our LRT and MRT are not full so there is no budget required for this),” Castro said.
Under the Pass 1+3 Promo, MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2 offer free rides for up to three family members with one paying family member every Sunday.
Family members, including parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, siblings as well as uncles and aunts or guardians with dependents can avail of the promo.
The promo will run until the last Sunday of June 2028.
Castro said the next administration has the option whether to continue the initiative.
“At bakit hanggang last Sunday ng June 2028? Dahil nais po ng Pangulo na bigyan din po ng karapatan ang susunod na administrasyon kung ano po ang nanaisin nilang programa patungkol po dito (And why until the last Sunday of June 2028? Because the President wants to give the next administration the right to decide what program they want regarding this),” she said.
“Iyan po ay respeto lang po ng Pangulo sa susunod na liderato (That is just the President’s respect for the next leadership).” (PNA)
