MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) its report on the investigation into the deaths of two Ateneo student-basketball players, Secretary Fredderick Vida said on Monday.

Vida said the NBI report will be consolidated with the referral earlier submitted to the DOJ by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).

“Now we are consolidating it and soon we will be coming up with a decision on how to proceed in this case,” Vida said in a media interview.

In its report, the NBI recommended the filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Ateneo men’s basketball team head coach Tab Baldwin, six assistant coaches, and a physical therapist.

Rene Baterbonia, 18, and Divine Adili, 21, drowned June 8 during a teambuilding activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.

The NBI also referred the filing of simple negligence resulting in homicide charges against three resort owners and an athletic director linked to the activity.

Earlier, the PNP filed violation of the anti-hazing law and homicide charges against Baldwin and 11 others. (PNA)
