MANILA (Mabuhay) — Landing a lead role in Joel Lamangan’s latest movie “Tomadachi” is another blessing for actress Bela Padilla.

She thought bagging the role of Honorata (Felix Manalo’s wife) in the blockbuster movie about the founder and first executive director of Iglesia ni Cristo, was already the biggest she could hope to receive this year but she was wrong.

“I must have done something really good,” she exclaimed in a recent interview.

“Kakaibang experience na naman itong ‘Tomadachi.’ I hope I won’t disappoint direk Joel. I hope this is the start of a fruitful partnership,” she added.

“Tomadachi” has Japanese actor Jacky Woo playing lead and according to Bela, “It’s a pleasant experience working with Jacky. Tahimik lang siya at mabait.”

Jacky has done several Filipino movies in the past, among them “Walang Hanggang Paalam,” which was directed by Paolo Villaluna.

His role in the said movie earned him a Gawad Urian nomination as Best Actor.

“Tomadachi” tells the story of a Japanese guy who falls In love with a Filipina during World War II.

The concept is by Lamangan himself with the story and script written by Enrique Ramos.

When Joel pitched the story to Jacky, the Japanese actor liked it at once and offered to produce it under his Global Japan Productions.

Also playing important roles in “Tomadachi” are Eddie Garcia, Pancho Magno, Hiro Peralta, Jim Pebanco, Lui Manansala, Elora Espano, Sue Prado and another Japanese actor Shin Nakamaru.

There are plans to enter Tomadachi” in various international film festivals.

Bela said, “Kaya nga excited talaga ako sa movie na Ito.” (MNS)
