MANILA – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday said a total of 58,693 individuals were arrested in a seven-day anti-crime crackdwon across Metro Manila.

In a statement, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said the operation took place from Sept. 8 to 14 and carried out by the Manila, Quezon City, Northern, Southern and Eastern police districts.

Aberin said the operatives of the NCRPO apprehended 317 wanted persons, including 119 identified as Most Wanted and 198 categorized as Other Wanted.

The NCRPO launched 205 anti-illegal drugs operations that led to the arrest of 299 suspects and the seizure of over 1,054 grams of shabu, 1,048 grams of dried marijuana leaves, and 209 grams of kush (high-grade marijuana), with an estimated street value exceeding PHP7.6 million.

Among those arrested were a listed High Value Individual (HVI), 53 listed Street Level Individuals (SLIs), 243 newly identified HVIs, and two newly identified SLIs.

A total of 140 anti-gambling operations were conducted, resulting in 295 arrests and the confiscation of more than PHP75,000 worth of illegal gambling paraphernalia and cash bets.

Meanwhile, 39 operations against loose firearms led to the arrest of 41 violators and the confiscation of 41 unlicensed firearms.

Local ordinances

The NCRPO said it also sustained its strict enforcement of local ordinances, recording 57,821 violators across Metro Manila during the period.

The leading offenses were drinking and smoking in public places (19,999), roaming the streets without shirts (5,923), urinating in public areas (6,284), and minors violating curfew hours (5,146).

The operations also addressed vandalism, illegal structures, improper wearing of face masks, and traffic code violations.

In total, these enforcement activities generated PHP17.4 million in fines and penalties.

Aberin said that they do not condone violators and are proving that their operations contribute to peace and order in Metro Manila. (PNA)
