Meryl Streep in talks to join cast of ‘Mary Poppins Returns’
Actress Meryl Streep is in talks to join Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel-Miranda for Disney’s upcoming “Mary Poppins Returns,” reports Variety.
Streep is rumored to take the role of Topsy, a supporting role that was absent from the 1964 classic, while Blunt will take on the title character. Manuel-Miranda will play new character Jack, a street lamplighter.
The film begins with Jane and Michael Brooks, now grown up, who are visited by Mary Poppins after a personal loss. With her magical skills, their revered former nanny is able to bring back the family’s hope and zest for life.
The film would see Streep and Blunt together again, after their work on the 2006 “The Devil Wears Prada.” The Mary Poppins sequel reaches theaters on December 25, 2018.
