MANILA (Mabuhay) — All she wants is to do away with all the “negativity” brought on by separation from husband of seven years, basketball player Don Allado. As part of her “healing process,” actress Maricar de Mesa traveled around the US on her own.

Mula nung naghiwalay kami, naging independent ako. Ngayon masasabi kong I’m better kasi nakaka-smile na ako,” she said.

She also pointed to her new makeover to signal the change in her life. “Nagpaiksi ako ng buhok at nagpa-blonde… Kailangan ko ng bagong look, kasi malaking bagay ‘yun para maipakita ko na medyo okay na ako.”

Maricar and Don dated for four years before they tied the knot in 2006 at Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. They made public their separation in May this year. The couple has no children.

Maricar revealed that she is angry about Don’s decision to end their marriage. Though noting that “things happen for a reason,” she added, “’Yung poot, meron pa. Hindi naman agad mawawala ’yon.”

Maricar doesn’t want to see or talk to Don at this point. “Para sumaya na ako, para gumaan na ’yung pakiramdam ko,” she reasoned.

Apparently, she has been hearing rumors about Don supposedly seeing a non-showbiz woman prior to their separation.

She revealed that they even have the same name. “Nalito ata siya (Don) sa name namin,” she jested.

One step at a time

Maricar is not open to entering a romantic relationship just yet, recalling her friend film director Wenn Deramas’ advice that she should, “Take things one step at a time; ’wag ko daw madaliin ’yung mga nangyayari.”

She is not ruling out the possibility of her falling in love again in the future. For now, however, she chooses to be with “friends ko muna… kasi sila rin ’yung mga kasama ko nung na down ako.”

Thankful that her family and friends have been very supportive during these trying times, she said, “They have been checking on me palagi. Kahit nung nasa States ako palagi silang nagte-text, nangangamusta.”

Maricar will be busy in the coming days shooting scenes for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “My Big Bossing’s Adventures.”

“I’m just waiting for the schedule,” she said. (MNS)
