MANILA (Mabuhay) — Petite and sexy 23-year old Mara Alberto’s dream came true when she debuted as an actress on GMA7’s sitcom “A1 Ko sa ‘Yo.”

Before her showbiz break, the newbie actress confessed she used to look for jobs on PLDT’s telephone directories.

“Hindi pa masyado uso Google noon,” she shared. “Sa telephone directory ako naghahanap ng mga agents who could help me.”

Mara’s creativity landed her modeling jobs for a fast food chain, a healthy snack and a feminine wash.

Then her luck changed when the late German “Kuya Germs” Moreno saw her at an indie film audition starring Nora Aunor.

“I always audition for roles kasi in indie movies,” she related. “Kuya Germs was there tapos nakita niya ako. Tinanong niya ako kung gusto kong mag-artista tapos kinuha niya akong co-host sa ‘Walang Tulugan’ noong 2012.”

“Walang Tulugan” then became her stepping stone into showbiz. Learning from Kuya Germs then, she continued to audition for work.

She revealed she pursued work in GMA for two long years before she landed a role on “A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo.”

As to why she didn’t settle for a hosting career, Mara explained, “I’ve always wanted to become an actress. Noong bata pa ako, ako na yung humahanap ng mga paraan para makapasok sa showbiz pati sa commercials. Acting is my dream and itong ‘A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo’ is a dream come true!”

She also admitted to being nervous about her role because it is her first acting job. She did get an acting workshop from GMAAC before her taping for the show began.

“I couldn’t believe it at first. Pero sobrang saya ko and nakakakaba kasi mga batikang artista ang mga makakasama ko,” Mara related.

The actress also hopes that “A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo” would kickstart her acting and showbiz career since she is the bread winner of her family. According to her, she’s the eldest among six siblings. Her mom works only during summer teaching piano and swimming lessons.

Aware of the stiff competition in showbiz, Mara doesn’t have qualms with future roles that would be given her. “Gusto kong maging sexy actress and gusto ko ring maging comedian. Pwede rin sa mga mature roles. I really want to try different characters kasi gusto ko talaga maging mahusay sa pag-arte,” she remarked.

In the sexy comedy “A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo,” Mara plays Kath, a model wannabe who takes on a job as receptionist at the A1 Talent Agency. She joins the cast top billed by Jaclyn Jose, Solenn Heussaff, Gardo Versoza, Sef Cadayona, Benjamin Alves, Roi Vinzon, Ervic Vijandre, Denise Barbacena and Gee Canlas.

“A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo,” directed by Randy Santiago, airs every Thursday on GMA.(MNS)
