(Relaxnews) – Universal went for Len Wiseman, the director of the Total Recall remake, to bring The Mummy back into theaters, according to Deadline.com.
The founder of the Underworld saga, which focuses on the age-old battle between vampires and werewolves, is set to shoot another remake of The Mummy.
Jon Spaits, who was involved in the scriptwriting for Prometheus, is working on the script for the horror film that will attempt to breathe new life into the character portrayed by Hollywood legend Boris Karloff in the 1930s.
The film is described as dark and epic and will try to distinguish itself from Stephen Sommers’s 1999 remake of the classic, which starred Brendan Fraser. Universal plans to release Wiseman’s remake in the summer of 2014.
