MANILA – The four remaining luxury vehicles linked to the Discaya family have been sold through a negotiated sale, generating more than PHP12 million in revenues for the government, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported Wednesday.
In a statement, the bureau said the negotiated sale, conducted on Tuesday, resulted in the sale of a 2022 GMC XL Yukon Denali for PHP3.209 million; a 2021 Cadillac Escalade for PHP3.750 million; a 2022 Maserati Levante Modena for PHP2.008 million; and a 2022 GMC Yukon Denali for PHP3.309 million.
With the disposal of the remaining vehicles, the BOC noted that it has fully disposed of all 13 seized vehicles of controversial contractor couple, Pacifico “Curlee” and Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya, who were linked to anomalous flood control projects.
The proceeds, amounting to PHP114,744,884.15, will be remitted to the Bureau of the Treasury.
According to Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, the successful disposal shows the BOC’s commitment to decisive and transparent customs administration.
“Today’s completion of the disposal of all remaining Discaya vehicles reflects the bureau’s firm commitment to transparency, accountability, and decisive action in the management of forfeited assets. More importantly, it demonstrates our continued efforts to ensure that government resources are properly utilized in a manner that serves the best interests of the Filipino people,” Nepomuceno said.
He added that the negotiated sale is part of the BOC’s continuing commitment to the lawful and efficient disposition of abandoned and forfeited goods in accordance with existing customs laws, rules, and regulations.
The activity also supports ongoing efforts to optimize government resources and generate revenues for the government through proper disposal mechanisms, Nepomuceno said. (PNA)
