MANILA – Maritanya Krogg displayed her brilliant form Wednesday to claim victory in the women’s Youth (Under-17) category at the start of the PhilCycling Tagaytay City Criterium in Cavite.

Krogg, a consistent gold medalist in the PhilCycling National Road Championships, crossed the finish line on Crisanto de los Reyes Avenue in front of the new Tagaytay City Velodrome 39 seconds ahead of Yvaine Osias and almost a minute over Princess Jaydee Pancho.

Krogg, winner at the Batang Pinoy Nationals, received PHP3,000 in cash.

Ronald Hualda, Daniel Cortero and Juan Carlos Barrios also ruled their respective categories in the race organized by PhilCycling and presented by the MVP Sports Foundation and the Philippine Olympic Committee and Tagaytay City headed by Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Hualda dominated the sprint finish in the men’s Masters B (40-above), beating Romeo Camingao and Marc Galedo by under two bike lengths in the event raced over a 2.1-km. rectangular circuit over Crisanto de los Reyes, Isaac Tolentino, Acle and Mahogany Avenues.

Hualda bagged PHP5,000 while Camingao and Galedo settled for PHP3,000 and PHP2,000, respectively. Alvin Benosa was fourth followed by Resty Aragon.

In the men’s Youth (U17), Cortero defeated Jerick Cabael and DJ Perez while Barrios triumphed over Leonel Dimaano and Joey de los Reyes in the men’s Masters A (30-39) class.

The three-day competition continues Thursday with the men’s and women’s Under-23 and the elite on Friday.

Aside from medals and cash prizes, winners will also earn PhilCycling national ranking points. (PNA)
