(Relaxnews) – Plugged in fans of teenage pop star Justin Bieber are attempting to give the Canadian singer a special gift for his 18th birthday on March 1 by setting the record for the most social media messages sent in a 24-hour period.

The Guinness World Record attempt is being organized by AgencyNet, the creators of JustinBieberMusic.com, who set up a special site at happybirthdayjustinbieber.com inviting fans to join in the record attempt by RSVPing on Facebook direct from the page.

Through the record attempt does not begin until midnight March 1, fans of Justin Bieber have already trended numerous topics relating to the singer including #BIEBERPARTYDOWNUNDE, #18MillionBeliebersForJustinsBirthday and “Justin is 17” — to mark his last day before turning 18.

Justin Bieber became a musical sensation after videos of him singing were uploaded to YouTube in 2007. He was signed the following year by Island Records.

Since then he has become a social media sensation: according to social media monitoring site Famecount the tween heartthrob has over 17,829,000 Twitter followers, 40 million Facebook fans and over 2,330,313,252 total views on YouTube.

However despite this social media success, on Facebook the singer trails behind Eminem, who has over 53 million fans, and on Twitter he is well behind Lady Gaga’s 19 million followers.
