MANILA, June 9 (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III and Filipina-Mexican “American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez have finally met in Los Angeles, California.

Aquino, after his dialogue with members of the Filipino community in Los Angeles, met Sanchez along with members of her family.

The meeting was set as a part of the Los Angeles leg of the president’s official state visit to the United States.

Moments after the meeting, Sanchez posted on micro-blogging site Twitter: “Heading back, that was an honor :)”

After her runner-up finish on the reality singing competition, Malacañang had expressed its support for the Pinay pride, saying that “throughout her long, arduous journey, people considered Ms. Sanchez a performer imbued with an extraordinary gift of music and heart.”

It added that Sanchez’s “American Idol” stint was only the beginning of a great career for the 16-year-old singer.

Sanchez had earlier expressed her gratitude for the support of the Philippine government, saying, “Thank you so much for all the support, hopefully I can meet you [Aquino] soon.”

Sanchez is set to sing the American national anthem at the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) . (MNS)
