Jerald Napoles laughs his way to success
Funny is the new sexy, as they say, and with that it could be said Jerald Napoles is among hottest of his ilk.
The 33-year-old admitted as much, noting how he has even attracted gay admirers following his appearance in the 2013 musical “Care Divas.”
“May mga nanligaw sa’kin noon na bading na gwapo pa sa’kin at mas ripped pa sa’kin,” he said.
And what did Jerald do? He related, “’Pag nagtanong sila ng, ‘Uy, kamusta?’ ‘Mabuti naman…’ Pero ’pag nagtanong na sila ng, ‘Pwede ka ba tonight? Can we hang out, the two of us?’ ‘Sige, sama ko barkada ko ha. Para marami tayo, masaya,’ ginaganu’n ko.”
“For me kasi ’pag dinirekta mong sabihin sa kanila na, ‘’Di ako bading,’ baka ma-offend sila tapos sabihin na assuming ako. Baka mamaya ako lang pala ’yung nag-a-assume na may gusto sila sa akin,” he added.
Turning serious, Jerald said he is not into same-sex relationships though he has no problems with those into it.
“Ang best friend ko nga married a gay guy eh so, for me love wins always,” he said. “Kung saan magiging masaya ang isang tao, hayaan natin sila. There should be no discrimination. Let’s respect the LGBTQ community.”
Jerald is now slowly becoming a household name what with his numerous appearances in theater and film, as well as on TV.
He finds it all unexpected. “Ang alam ko lang kasi gusto ko umarte so, puro trabaho lang ako,” he said. “Hindi ko pansin na kilala na pala ako ng tao, nare-recognize na ako sa public, nakakatuwa.”
His love for performing started when he joined theatre productions in high school. He pursued a career in theater thereafter by joining professional theater groups.
He went on to do more stage productions including the musical “Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal” and “Magsimula Ka” where his comedic timing blossomed.
“Akala kasi nila noong nagsisimula ako pang-goons (na role) lang ang kaya ko kasi mukha akong goons eh, ’yun pala nagpapatawa ako,” he said.
But it was after doing the role of Tolits in PETA’s original musical “Rak Of Aegis” that opportunities came knocking left and right for Jerald.
It was in “Rak” where GMA discovered him that paved the way to appearces as guest actor on the TV programs “Niño,” “My Faithful Husband,” and “That’s My Amboy.”
“Blessing talaga ang ‘Rak’ hindi lang sa akin kundi pati sa ibang cast members,” he expressed.
Jerald will soon be seen on the GMA comedy series “Conan, My Beautician” where he plays a metrosexual beautician.
The Adolf Alix Jr. series, which starts airing today, stars Mark Herras in the title role then Megan Young, Cacai Bautista, Betong Sumaya, Boobsie, Tetay, Vangie Labalan, Lotlot de Leon, Jay Manalo, Chlaui Malayao, Antonette Garcia, and Balang.
Jerald is also doing the movie “Pauwi Na,” an entry to the 2016 ToFarm Film Festival; as well as “CampSawi” and “That Thing Called Tanga Na.” (MNS)
