MANILA – A Japanese government official reaffirmed Tokyo’s support for the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) contributions toward enhancing regional safety and security in the maritime sector.
During a courtesy visit at the PCG National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila on Tuesday, Japan Deputy Director General and Deputy Assistant Minister of Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Miyamoto Shingo thanked the PCG and expressed his support for its missions.
“Our shared efforts reflect a deep understanding of the complexities of our current geopolitical landscape. We recognize the importance of upholding the rule of law in maritime governance, particularly in the face of emerging challenges,” Miyamoto said.
In a statement Wednesday, PCG Strategic Studies and International Affairs Center Director, Commodore Rommel Supangan, hoped to “deepen” the partnership between the Philippines and Japan, specifically in exploring solutions to shared challenges.
“May this visit deepen our partnership and chart a course towards a future where our maritime cooperation continues to serve as a beacon of strength and mutual benefit,” Supangan said.
During the meeting, he said the discussions with Miyamoto were focused on contributing to enhanced regional maritime security. (PNA)
