MANILA – A strong roster of local and international triathletes will gather in Olongapo City on June 15 for the Century Tuna I Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay Philippines, the second leg of this year’s five-race series.
Irienold Reig Jr. leads the local charge in the men’s 18-24 category of the 1.9km swim-90km bike-21km race.
Joining him are Gerard Mendoza, Julio Padilla, John Paul Osio, Carl Aguilar, Benedicto Mapanao Jr. and Jan Javier.
Reig is also gearing up for a title defense in the Olympic distance (1.5km swim-40km bike-10km run) 5150 Bohol in July,
Seeing action in the women’s 30-34 category are Faith Garcia, Regina Rosquites, Gabrielle Silvestre-Tengco, Clarisa Agapito, Hazel Sicat, Nicole Andaya, Claudine Mendiola and Bianca Bondoc.
The Subic Bay event is the second of five Ironman races following the successful Ironman 70.3 Puerto Princesa, Palawan in March.
A total of 45 slots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Marbella, Spain in November are at stake.
Sharing the spotlight with the 70.3 event is the Sunrise Sprint, a short-distance triathlon featuring 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.
The Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center will also host a warehouse wipeout Ironman sale June 12 to 15, offering massive deals on race gear, apparel and merchandise. (PNA)
