MANILA – The House of Representatives on Friday adopted a resolution expressing its profound empathy, compassion, and unwavering solidarity with the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and neighboring provinces on Sept. 30.

Under House Resolution (HR) 325, introduced by House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan, the lawmakers responded to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for emergency funds to help the areas devastated by the powerful earthquake.

“Resolved, further, that the members of the House of Representatives collectively and individually rise up to meet the challenges of relief and rehabilitation in the earthquake-stricken areas for the purpose of providing any form of assistance to the earthquake victims,” the resolution read.

The tremor claimed 72 lives, injured hundreds and destroyed many houses, commercial establishments, vital infrastructures, and churches, including the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima in Daanbantayan.

HR 325 recognized President Marcos’ directives to all concerned government agencies to participate in the rescue, medical, and relief operations.

President Marcos has personally assured the victims of the government’s full support, including assistance not only for recovery but also for rebuilding efforts.

“The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt condolences and profound empathy to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy and stands in unwavering solidarity with the Province of Cebu and all other stricken communities in their time of great need and collective recovery,” HR 325 read. (PNA)
