(Relaxnews) – NBC plans to revive its superhero drama through a miniseries titled “Heroes Reborn” and scheduled to air next year.

Rumored since last spring, the return of “Heroes” is now official. NBC confirmed the news through a 20-second teaser that reveals only a few meager plot details.

Tim Kring will return to direct the miniseries, which will consist of 13 original episodes featuring new characters. TV viewers can also expect to see a few of the original show’s superpower-endowed protagonists, who have been invited to appear in the reboot.

Among the most notable series of the 2000s, “Heroes” was aired in the US from 2006 to 2010. While the first two seasons achieved solid TV ratings and were popular on illegal downloading websites, audiences quickly lost interest in the drama. The last season was watched by a mere seven million viewers, half of the audience of its first season.
