(Relaxnews) – Like the sweeping love stories Chocolat and Like Water for Chocolate, inspired by perhaps one of the most mythologized foods in literature, a confectionery brand has partnered with New York Times bestselling novelist Nicholas Sparks in a contest that seeks the sweetest love story.
In the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, when store shelves groan with heart-shaped bonbon boxes, premium chocolate brand Godiva has launched a contest that would see the winner meet the author of the epic love stories The Notebook andThe Best Of Me, in addition to having his or her name immortalized as a character in one of Sparks’s upcoming books.
The winner will also be able to walk the red carpet for the premiere of the latest movie based on the author’s work, The Lucky One, and get a personal, one-on-one writing tutorial by Sparks on how to write their own love story.
As a muse, there’s perhaps no food more mythologized than cocoa. In the bookChocolat, by Joanne Harris, the opening of a chocolaterie in a small sleepy French village helps awaken the villagers from a repressed stupor, while Mexican hot chocolate, which is made by boiling water with cocoa repeatedly, inspires the title for Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.
The Godiva contest, open to US residents, has already attracted submissions, with some entries waxing poetic about love at first sight, romantic proposals, and war-torn love with a happy ending.
One hundred winners will also receive an autographed copy of Sparks’s novel,The Lucky One, and a complimentary box of Godiva chocolates. Deadline is February 14.
Meanwhile, premium chocolate boutique La Maison du Chocolat, with locations in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, London and New York, has launched a series of gift boxes including a Valentine’s Day Coffret inspired by the fruits and spices from India and Africa.
And master chocolatier Jean-Paul Hévin, who has boutiques in France, Japan, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, has also released a line of seasonal chocolates which includes red milk-chocolate hearts with hazelnut cream filling and grapefruit-flavored praline coating.
