(Relaxnews) – The miniseries produced by Ridley Scott will hit the small screen in the US and Canada on January 20, 21 and 22, the Discovery Channel has announced.

Based on Charlotte Gray’s novel “Gold Diggers: Striking it Rich in the Klondike,” the mini-series will take place during the end of the 19th century in Canada’s Yukon territory, not far from the border with Alaska, which was the setting of Charlie Chaplin’s classic “The Gold Rush.”

The story follows two childhood friends, Bill Haskell and Byron Epstein, who set out for the west, where adventure and danger await them at every turn.

The two characters will be played by Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”) and Augustus Prew (“The Borgias”). Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson (“Lincoln”), Abbie Cornish (“Sucker Punch”), Ian Hart (“Luck”), Johnny Simmons (“Scott Pilgrim vs the World”) and Conor Leslie (“90210”) round out the cast.

The screenplay for “Klondike,” the channel’s first scripted mini-series production, was written by Paul Scheuring, creator of “Prison Break”. A familiar name on television productions (“Treme”, “The Borgias”, “Boardwalk Empire”), Britain-born Simon Cellan Jones heads up the direction.
