She’s been in Philippine show business for 35 years, but 42-year old Gelli de Belen is still active as ever.
She shares wisdom on how to live a long and illustrious career in show business.
First, according to Gelli, is to concentrate on their craft and and maintain camaraderie with co-workers or colleagues.
“No matter how maingay you are now or how many followers you have now in your Instagram or Twitter accounts, at the end of the day, five years or 10 years from now, ang maaalala sa ‘yo ay ‘yung trabaho mo or ‘yung ginawa mo. It shouldn’t be who your boyfriend or girlfriend
was or what you were wearing. Sayang naman kung artista ka tapos ‘yun ang focus ng buhay mo,” explained Gelli.
Second is to work hard and be dedicated to their showbiz careers.
“Gusto kong impart sa kanila to be grateful for this is not forever. Alam kong nakakapagod pero sige lang. These are actually things that I would have loved people to have told me when I was younger. Sana mas naipukpok pa sa atin para mas marami pa akong nagawa,” she wished.
Gelli did some 40 movies in her career, including one that earned her a Gawad Urian Award for Best Actress, the film “The Secrets of Sarah Jane: Sana’y Mapatawad Mo.”
She has also done more than 20 TV shows for ABS-CBN, GMA-7 and TV5.
She recalled that during her younger years, she was doing at least four films a year plus different TV shows on different TV networks. And it was really taxing for a young actress.
“That’s why I’m also going to tell them to treasure their jobs, make the most of every scene or each taping day or each guest appearances,” she continued.
Gelli is, at the moment, on her fourth year as TV5 talent and she is grateful for the opportunities the said network has given her.
Her latest shows are: “Happy Truck Ng Bayan,” a game show that airs every Sunday; “Happy Wife, Happy Life” (it’s her last week in the show) and “KIS (K-Pop Icon Search) Pinoy” that airs every Saturday night.
What she’s looking forward though is “Misterless Misis,” a comedy directed by Mark Meily. Top-billing the sitcom with her are Ruffa Gutierrez and awarded actress Lorna Tolentino. “I’m not saying this because I’m in the show, but maganda ‘yung show. We even use film camera para iba yung texture and maganda ‘yung texture pag napanuod ninyo. Mark Meily’s brand of comedy is also new and very now,” described Gelli. (MNS)
