(Relaxnews) – President Barack Obama has taken over the White House Instagram account, taking photos and selfies of his Alaskan tour.
And aside from a stray finger blocking the frame of a selfie taken with survivalist and reality show host Bear Grylls, the photos aren’t half bad.
“Hey everyone, it’s Barack,” he wrote on his first Instagram photo, taken from the plane over Alaska.
“Incredible view as we near Anchorage. I’ll be spending the next few days touring this beautiful state and meeting with Alaskans about what’s going on in their lives. Looking forward to sharing it with you,” he wrote, signing off simply as “bo.”
During his tour of Alaska, Obama will tape an episode of the reality survival show “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” in which the president will trek through the wilderness with host Grylls.
Obama has embarked on a high-profile tour of Alaska as part of a major public awareness campaign that includes engaging with citizens directly on Instagram, to highlight the effects that climate change is already wreaking on home turf.
Along with aerial and landscape views of Alaska’s beautiful natural environment, Obama is using the photo opps as teaching moments, pointing out at Exit Glacier, for example, that the glacial retreat has accelerated at worrying rates in the last hundred years.
“We need to make sure our grandkids can see this,” he wrote.
