MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) deployed its personnel and heavy equipment for the clearing operations of trash clogging the Redemptorist Water Channel in Brgy. Baclaran, Parañaque City.
During his visit to the river on Tuesday, Secretary Vince Dizon said the deployment of personnel and equipment was in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to conduct clearing operations.
“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the deployment of two backhoes, one backhoe loader, five dump trucks, and 50 Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel to conduct clearing operations and restore the proper flow of water in the river,” he said in a social media post.
The massive accumulation of trash is obstructing the city’s rivers and drainage systems, contributing to severe flooding and causing water levels to rise above a person’s height.
At the same time, he expressed alarm upon seeing trash clogging the water channel and asked the public to do their share by properly disposing of their garbage.
“We repeatedly call upon our LGUs and our fellow citizens to exercise greater discipline in waste disposal,” Dizon said.
“However, I believe we also truly need an overall master plan to address the garbage crisis. We need to put an end to this once and for all,” the DPWH chief added. (PNA)
