MANILA, July 22 (Mabuhay) — Dingdong Dantes’ food delivery service app has been hiring showbiz workers who lost their jobs amid the community quarantine.

The riders were given a five-day training with the help of Yes Pinoy Foundation and other agencies.

Carlo Kaunes, a stuntman of “Descendants of the Sun,” said he has been feeling depressed after suddenly losing his means of income when the pandemic struck.

“Kung kani-kanino po ako nangungutang para kasi sa mga anak ko, sa family ko,” he said. “Tapos hanggang sa umiyak na ko sa magulang ko. Sabi ko, ‘Hindi ko na kaya, ma.'”

Paolo Molina, who has been in the film and television industry for 16 years, said it was difficult to suddenly have their livelihood taken away from them.

“Bilang tatay hindi mo alam kung saan ka kukuha ng lahat ng mga pangangailangan ng bahay namin,” he said.

Dingdong said it was important for the riders to undergo training because many accidents on the road involve motorcycles.

“Kung sakaling mangyari sa kanila or makakita sila ng kasamahan nila sa mga kalsada na naaksidente, alam nila kung paano mag-respond,” he said.

Dingdong added they were also given advice on financial management to help them handle their income.

Meanwhile, the actor hinted that he could also hop on the motorcycle one day, sharing that he already experienced delivering flowers for his wife Marian Rivera’s flower shop.

“Masaya akong ginawa ko para sa kanya ‘yun and ito is parang a scaled version of that,” he said. (MNS)
