MANILA – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Sunday ordered all local government units (LGUs) in the projected path of Super Typhoon Nando to immediately carry out preemptive evacuations to safeguard residents.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said LGUs must waste no time in moving families away from storm surges, flooding, and landslide-prone zones.

“Lives are at stake. Preemptive evacuation is no longer an option — it is an obligation of government and a responsibility of communities,” Remulla said in a press release.

He urged citizens’ cooperation and reminded families in vulnerable areas to follow evacuation orders without delay.

On Saturday, the agency issued an advisory directing LGUs to enforce anticipatory measures such as liquor bans, no-sail policy, clearing of waterways and preparation of evacuation centers.

With the threat now greater, these directives must be implemented swiftly, Remulla said.

LGUs were instructed to ensure evacuation centers are powered, stocked with supplies and safe for evacuees; to secure critical infrastructure; and to provide food and humanitarian aid. (PNA)
