MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is looking into the harassment incident involving Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s visit to Canada last week.
Foreign Affairs spokesperson Analyn Ratonel on Wednesday said DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro has already instructed the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver to coordinate with Canadian authorities in “determining the specifics of the incident as well as the applicable laws and security protocols covering visiting foreign dignitaries.”
A video of what appears to be Filipino protesters following and harassing Castro in Vancouver had been circulating on social media.
Later, Castro said she respects the protesters’ right to free speech and decided not to pursue legal action.
The official admitted that she was initially surprised by the protesters’ rude behavior but chose to ignore the incident. (PNA)
