MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday assured that some one million voters found to have multiple registrations will still be able to vote in the May 2025 polls.
“We won’t delete the registrations of a double or multiple registrant. There will be one left,” Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia said in a radio interview.
Garcia explained that the original registration record of the voter will be retained.
“We will, however, delete the subsequent registrations so that only one data will be left come the 2025 elections,” he said.
Garcia said the poll body cannot deprive a Filipino of the constitutional right to vote.
On Monday, the Comelec reported that its Automated Fingerprint Identification System detected an estimated one million registered voters with double or multiple registrations. (PNA)
