(Relaxnews) – Burger King’s global peace mission is moving forward despite being rejected by arch rival McDonald’s, having found allies in four other fast food chains who’ve offered to join forces and create their own Peace Day Burger.

A week after McDonald’s threw cold water on BK’s invitation to make amends and collaborate on a ‘McWhopper’ for the UN’s International Day of Peace September 21, BK has announced plans to build an even more epic burger with US chains Denny’s, Krystal, Wayback Burgers and Giraffas.

Last week, BK took out a full-page ad in The New York Times calling for a temporary “ceasefire on these so-called burger wars,” in the name of peace.

“Let’s end the beef, with beef,” the ad read.

McDonald’s response? A rather glacial Facebook post by CEO Steve Easterbrook that backhandedly pooh-poohed the idea, essentially calling the proposal a glib response to “the real pain and suffering of war.”

Enter Denny’s, Krystal, Wayback Burgers and Giraffas, which saw an opportunity and pounced, joining in the fray.

“They McChickened Out,” read a Twitter post by Brazilian chain Giraffas. “We accept.”

Diner chain Denny’s also posted a photo of a burger bearing the peace sign, proposing to create a mash-up “Whammer” or “Whoppaslamus-rex.”

Meanwhile, though BK says their original invitation to McDonald’s still stands, the company says they’ll take the other chains up on their offer, and propose to create a burger that combines a key ingredient from each of their signature sandwiches to build a single burger of peace.

Sandwiches will be sold at a pop-up restaurant that’s currently under construction, on Peace Day September 21.

Proceeds will go to not-for-profit Peace One Day.
